First Selectwoman Gorki called the meeting of the Board of
Selectmen to order at 7:35 p.m. The
meeting was held in the Selectmen’s Conference Room of the Bethany Town
Hall.
CEMETERY DEEDS
The Selectmen signed cemetery deeds for Derrylyn Gorski and
George and Donna Taylor. Nancy McCarthy
notarized the deeds.
APPOINTMENT OF
ADMINISTRSATIVE LIEUTENANT
First Selectwoman Gorski called for a motion to appoint
David Merriam as Administrative Lieutenant for the Town of Bethany. The motion was moved by Selectman Shea and
seconded by Selectman Hurlburt. The vote
taken was unanimous. First Selectwoman
Gorski then officially swore David Merriam in as Administrative Lieutenant for
the Town of Bethany.
APPROVAL OF
MINUTES
First Selectwoman Gorski called for a motion of approval for
the minutes of the meeting of June 10, 2019.
The motion was moved by Selectman Hurlburt. Selectman Shea seconded the
motion. Selectman Shea then moved to
amend the minutes of the meeting as follows:
(Amended 6/24/2019) how do we
change the position of First Selectman back to a part time position?. The amended minutes were then approved on a
unanimous vote.
PERSONNEL MANUEL
REVISION
First Selectwoman Gorski would like to modify the Personnel
Manuel as follows to match the Highway Department Union Contract:
Vacation time may be carried over to the next year for special
circumstances with the written permission of the First Selectman but is limited
to 50% of total vacation entitlement.
(i.e. if entitled to two weeks of vacation only one week may be carried
over). Selectman Shea moved a motion
to amend the Town of Bethany Personnel Manuel as proposed. Selectman Hurlburt seconded the motion. The vote taken was unanimous.
ADDITION TO AGENDA
Selectman Hurlburt moved to add Bethany Fire Department and
Knollwood wells to the agenda of this meeting.
Selectman Shea seconded the motion.
The vote taken was unanimous.
BETHANY FIRE
DEPARTMENT
The Bethany Fire Department would like permission to sell
the 1983 Pumper truck to a Fire Department in Maine for $5,000. Following discussion Selectman Shea moved a
motion to authorize the Fire Department to sell the 1983 Pumper truck. The proceeds would be put in the Capital
Reserve account. The vote taken was
unanimous.
KNOLLWOOD ROAD
WELLS
First Selectman Gorski reported that she had received a
report from DEEP. The three wells on
Knollwood Road are being impacted by surface water causing the high sodium test. Some of the wells are less than 100 feet
deep. Their suggestion was to dig new wells
and install deeper casings. First
Selectwoman Gorski is waiting to get bids for this work. It is estimated that the cost would be
approximately $9,100 for 300 feet of well with 75 feet of casing.
OTHER
The paving of the Town Hall Parking lot is scheduled for the
week of July 8th. The Park
and Recreation camp will be at the lake.
ADJOURNMENT
Adjournment was called at 8:00 p.m. after a motion was moved
by Selectman Shea and seconded by Selectman Hurlburt. The vote taken was unanimous.
