First Selectwoman Gorski called the meeting of the Board of
Selectmen to order at 7:30 p.m. The
meeting was held in the Selectmen’s Conference Room of the Bethany Town Hall.
APPROVAL OF
MINUTES
First Selectwoman Gorski called for a motion of approval for
the minutes of the meeting of February 22, 2016. The motion was moved by Selectman Shea and
seconded by Selectman Hurlburt. The vote
was called. The vote was unanimous.
ADDITION TO AGENDA
Selectman Shea moved to add to the agenda of this meeting,
Waive or Reduce Fees for use of Lakeview Lodge and Appointment to the Solid
Waste Committee. Selectman Hurlburt seconded the motion. The vote taken was unanimous.
USE OF LAKEVIEW
LODGE
Chip Spear has requested use of the Lakeview Lodge and
waiving of fees for its use, to hold a Workshop Discussion on Country
Problems. The discussion could go beyond
politics and the environment. The
session would be open to the public, and members of Town Boards and Commissions
will be invited to attend. Following
further discussion Selectman Hurlburt moved to waive the fees for use of
Lakeview Lodge for workshop to be held on May 22, 2016. Selectman Shea seconded the motion. The vote taken was unanimous.
APPOINTMENT TO
SOLID WASTE COMMITTEE
Selectwoman Gorski moved to appoint Michael Kaloyanides to
the Solid Waste Committee. The motion
was seconded by Selectman Hurlburt.
First Selectwoman Gorski called the vote. There were two yes votes and one no vote that
of Selectman Shea as he felt that George MacDonnell should be re-appointed.
STREET LIGHTS
First Selectwoman Gorski received information regarding the
offer of Eversource for towns to buy their street lights and maintaining
them. The cost to the towns for
electricity would be less, however towns would have to maintain them, and hire
outside contractor to repair. The Town
would lose tax revenue of about $14,000 alone to save $10,000 in electrical
fees. First Selectwoman Gorski is
checking with other municipalities through CCM to see how they are handling it. It was the consensus of the Selectmen to make
no changes at this time.
NWCTPS MEMORANDUM
OF AGREEMENT WITH NORTH WEST COMMUNICATIONS
The Selectmen briefly discussed the Memorandum of Agreement
with North West Communications.
Selectman Shea then moved a motion to accept the agreement. Selectman Hurlburt seconded the motion. The vote taken was unanimous.
EXECUTIVE SESSION
TO DISCUSS CONTRACTS AND REAL ESTATE
At 7:50 p.m. a motion was moved by Selectman Hurlburt to go
into executive session to discuss contracts and real estate. The motion was seconded by Selectman
Shea. The vote was called. The vote was unanimous. At 8:15 p.m. Selectman Shea moved to exit the
executive session. Selectman Hurlburt
seconded motion. The vote taken was
unanimous.
ADJOURNMENT
Adjournment was called at 8:16 p.m. after a motion was moved
by Selectman Hurlburt and seconded by Selectman Shea. The vote taken was unanimous.
