Minutes of the Bethany Cemetery Commission

Regular Meeting on March 17,  2014

A regular meeting of the Bethany Cemetery Commission was held in the Selectmen’s Meeting Room of the Bethany Town Hall on Wednesday, October 22, 2014.  In attendance were : Will Brinton ~ Chairman,  Mary Ehrler, Tony Esposito, Pat Stewart and Kris Sullivan.  Excused were Carol Goldberg and Steve Thornquist. 

The meeting was called to order at 7:42 p.m. by the Chairman.

 

Approval of Minutes

The minutes  of the Commissions regular meeting on February 3, 2014 were distributed.  It was moved by Esposito and seconded by Stewart to accept and approve the minutes as submitted.

Unanimous approval.

 

Carrington Cemetery Mapping Update

The Chairman reported that he had been in contact with Town Engineer Dave Nafis.  Until the snow cover is gone the engineer cannot verify some items in the field.  The Chairman will provide an updated report at the Commission’s next regular meeting.

 

Cemetery Fees and Bylaws

Since Goldberg was not present there was no discussion on this item except the note that the Chairman will be in contact with Goldberg regarding any information on sample fees that she has gathered.

Ehrler noted that St. Agnes Cemetery in Branford allows two cremains per plot.  She also noted that the Commission should consider if green burials could be used or if vaults could be above the ground.  Further discussion was continued until Goldberg could be present to discuss sample by laws she has gathered.

 

Carrington Road Cemetery Gravestone Repairs

A date of Sunday April 6th at 9 a.m. was scheduled to inspect the gravestones at the cemetery to determine what stones are in need of repair.  April 26th was selected as an alternative rain/snow date. 

 

Other Business

                Ehrler noted that Dick Hemingway had taken pictures of all the graves in the cemeteries in Town.  In discussion it was decided that five copies of the CD’s of each cemeteries grave stone would be made.  Copies will go to the Commission, Library, Town Hall and Historical Society.  The two churches will also receive a copy of the stones for their respective cemeteries.

                There was also discussion of posting the stones on any website for the town cemeteries that may be created.

 

Adjournment

                There being no further business to come before the Commission, it was moved by Esposito and seconded by Stewart to adjourn the meeting at 8:26 p.m.
